Antoine Louis Barye (1795-1875) Nine-light candelabra Pair of red-brown patina bronzes Signed "BARYE" on the terrace H. 71 cm Related work : -Antoine-Louis Barye, Angélique et Roger montés sur l'hippogriffe, 1855, gilded, silvered and enamelled bronze, marble-onyx, Paris, Musée d'Orsay, inv. OAO 1374. Related literature: -Michel Poletti, Alain Richarme, Barye, le catalog raisonné des sculptures, Paris, Gallimard, 2000, p. 96, p. 97 and 101. In addition to animal sculpture, Barye was also interested in the applied arts, creating here a pair of nine-light candelabra supported by Venus, Minerva and Juno and surmounted by three chimeras. The same composition, embellished with the Three Graces, forms the mantelpiece surrounding the group of An- gelique and Roger. Once again, Barye uses the three seated goddesses to support a crystal bowl, forming a tabletop element.
