Description

Aurore DUPIN known as George SAND (1804-1876) Farm Black pencil drawing (Some brown spots.) Height 8.5 cm; Width: 15.5 cm George Sand had been drawing since childhood, like most young women of her time, but with a passion that she would carry throughout her life. Portraits, country scenes, souvenirs of her travels - drawing was her companion and a source of great joy. She could have been a renowned painter had she not become a writer. Late in life, she invented a watercolor process of her own, which she called "dendrite", compositions based on stains and other chance shapes, enhanced or not with watercolor. Her work remains little-known, however, and is mostly held in private collections. EXPERT: Élisabeth MARÉCHAUX
