Eugène CORNU (1827-1899) after François GIRARDON (1628-1715) "L'enlèvement de Proserpine par Pluton", brown patina bronze, signed "Eugène Cornu Paris" on the side of the terrace. Height: 97 cm On a green veined marble column adorned with gilded bronzes in the Empire style. Height 105 cm Total height 202 cm The sculpture is based on the work executed by François Girardon to adorn the grounds of the Château de Versailles. It was in 1674 that Louis XIV placed the "Grande Commande" of works destined to adorn the park of Versailles. Girardon composed the work and its pedestal, delivered in 1696, which today remain in the Château's collection.
