Description

Service celebrated on the death of Louis XVI by the Prince de Condé. Handwritten copy from the archives by Beauchesne, mid-19th century. "If our unalterable and constant fidelity could not save him from the horrors of his fate, at least it followed him to his grave, where the most atrocious of crimes has just precipitated the most unfortunate of kings. A long sorrow will never exhaust the source of our tears, and the height of evil for any honest and sensitive soul is to have to mourn both the loss of his King and the crimes of his country". Speech delivered in the presence of the Duc de Bourbon and the Duc d'Enghien.
