Description

JOSÉ FREIXANES (Pontevedra, 1953). "Figura na agua". 1984. Oil on panel. Signed, titled and dedicated on the back. Measurements: 60 x 52 cm; 79 x 71 cm (frame). The artistic language of José Freixanes moves between abstraction and figuration, and is marked by a strong primitivist character, as can be seen in the bright colours of this composition, in whose delicate surface the human figure seems to be diluted. José Freixanes trained in Bilbao, where he studied Fine Arts, and at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, where he furthered his studies thanks to a scholarship from the Diputación Provincial de Pontevedra. He is linked to the Atlántica movement, and is a member of the Juana Mordó Gallery; currently, in addition to his artistic career, he works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Granada. His work has been exhibited in Santiago de Compostela, Bilbao, Madrid, Vigo, Santander, Ibiza, Damascus (Syria), Casablanca (Morocco), etc., and is kept in private collections as well as in some important institutions (MEAC Collection, Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, Chase Manhattan Bank Collection in New York, U.N.E.D. Collection (Madrid), Caja Madrid Collection, etc.).
