Through Lucio Fontana, with whom he had a lifelong friendship since 1957, Bischoffshausen came into contact with the artist group ZERO, which had been founded in 1958 by Heinz Mack and Otto Piene in Düsseldorf. Ready from all ballast, they wanted to start again from scratch. Themes such as silence and light became the focus of his interest.
