Josef Stoitzner (1884-1951) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Franz Rumpler. As a member of the artists' group 'Der Kreis', from 1909 member of the Vienna Secession and from 1939 of the Künstlerhaus. Despite everything, Stoitzner remained committed to mood impressionism throughout his life and painted a number of still lifes in addition to many landscape depictions. An interior is in the collection of the Belvedere.
