Although Rieger was not a professionally trained artist, he enjoyed the recognition and appreciation of the Viennese art scene and even became a member of the artists' group Hagenbund. His ability to capture the mood of a scene is remarkable: in this painting, figures and the free, uninhibited brushwork harmonize perfectly with the message, transporting the viewer to that perfect summer day.
