Rudolf Ribarz's art is influenced by Corot and the Barbizon School, with which he came into contact during his stay in Paris. Although he incorporated elements of Dutch landscape painting into his works, he found his personal style by painting landscapes that were elevated from their mundanity with a restrained yet decorative touch. His Mill in the Rain reflects the dual nature of his landscapes: the scene is real, but nature becomes a benevolent, gentle being that can affect the viewer.
