Martinz, Fritz

Female nude,1972-73 Color chalk on paper Signed lower left 150 x 80 cm framed Martinz attended the Graz School of Applied Arts from 1939 under Rudolf Szyszkowitz. From 1943 to 1945 he did military service and from 1945 he studied again at the Kunstgewerbeschule Graz, from 1947 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Albert Paris Gütersloh. In 1949 he became a member of the Vienna Secession. In 1950 he received the diploma of the Academy and the State Prize within the Academy of Vienna. Fritz Martinz and Alfred Hrdlicka developed their work together immediately after World War II and were also represented together in important exhibitions. Both coined an expressive realism of great spontaneity. The depictions of nudes belong to the central theme of Fritz Martinz, who depicts them expressively, densely and explicitly. The large-format work from the 1970s almost bursts the frame with its composition, creates a movement through synchronous depictions of different states and convinces with expressive coloring. Provenance: Lehner Gallery, acquired directly from the artist
