Rare silk velvet panel depicting an eagle with outstretched wings whose talons are attached to a cannon with thunderbolt and lictor beams surmounted by a rich vase of flowers bearing the monogram AL, embroidered with various silk stitches and brocaded with silver threads, circa 1850, second half of the 19th century. Silk velvet consisting of four strips mounted on a frame, wear of the support showing the absence of velvet in some places. Oxidation on the stitched parts. Was probably embedded in a woodwork. H : 2,73 - L : 1,20 m Since the end of the 18th century this theme is used in a drawing by Michel-Bruno Bellangé in 1781 and in the design of a carpet kept at the Mobilier national (GMT 2064) for the Turkish boudoir of Marie-Antoinette in Fontainebleau where we can see at the corners of the eagles with wings spread over cassolettes. In the 19th century eclecticism prevails and takes up themes that are dear to him. It can be compared to a screen sheet with eagle decoration in brocaded silk kept at the Mobilier national (GMMP- 25300-000) dated from the Second Empire (1848-1870). Bibliography: P.
