A French gilt-bronze medal commemorates the 250th anniversary of the foundation of St. Petersburg. The obverse features a bust of the emperor after Jean Duvivier (French, 1687-1761), a medallist who was appointed official medallist to King Louis XV of France. The reverse bears the coat of arms of the Russian Empire, a double-headed crowned eagle with a scepter, sword, and ball under the monogram of Peter I, and reads on the sides MDCCIII-MCMLIII, 1703-1953, and below in Latin St. Petersburg on May 16, along the left edge: A.A.P.M.R., on the right: N.Z. PINX. for Nikolai Zaretsky. Dimensions: D: 2 5/16 in., (5.9 cm.) VG.
