A fine Russian silver samorodok purse or a clutch bag with a long chain handle. The textured surface is adorned with attached gold overlays depicting the Cyrillic signature Petya, a monogram TM and an image of a running fox. Hallmarked with an 84 silver standard, a kokoshnik mark and the maker mark. On the inside it has a brown leather lining with several compartments. Samorodok is a technique that produces a beautifully textured nugget-like effect on the surface. It is achieved by heating the silver to a temperature just below melting point, then cooling it abruptly in water. It is a very difficult technique to master, so samorodok is quite rare.
