Description

Remarkable 18K (750‰) gold rectangular box with cut sides, bordered by a frieze decorated with water leaves, set in oval with a Roman micromosaic miniature attributed to Giacomo RAFFAELI (1753-1836), with a rare figure of a tiger leaping in a hilly landscape on a mountain and river background The box bears in its bottom punches known as "of prestige". Goldsmith's work probably Swiss of the first half of the XIXth century Dimensions : H. 1,8 cm - L. 9 cm - D. 5,4 cm - Gross weight : 122g Dimensions of the micro-mosaic alone : H. 3,8 cm - L. 6,2 cm FW Presented in a boiled leather or black tinted dogwood case It is worth noting the rarity of representations of the tiger in the field of micromosaics, which could suggest a subject of order for the Middle Eastern market where the presence of the tiger is proven until the early twentieth century. Provenance: former Swiss aristocratic family, then by descent
