GABRIELLE VINCENT

GABRIELLE VINCENT ERNEST AND CELESTINE Musiciens des rues, Éditions Duculot 1981 Musiciens des rues, original cover. Watercolor on paper 32.8 × 29.3 cm (12.91 × 11.54 in.) One of the few albums in which Gabrielle Vincent created an image especially for the cover. We may be in Place du Châtelain, the artist's beloved square where she lived for almost 40 years; we're definitely in Brussels, and bears and mice seem to be getting along just fine, as if Ernest and Célestine had emulated each other, or as if their relationship, made of difference and tolerance, was the norm in Gabrielle Vincent's ideal world. This is the album where Ernest reconnects with his childhood memories, agreeing to play music again. We notice that all the mice are children and all the bears are parents, like a tender and delicate order of things; where the dichotomy of size, and the smallness of some generates the kindness of others.
