William Leblanc (1822-1903), former marine soldier, painter and sculptor, gives here an account of his life, particularly focused on the years spent on the Marquesas Islands. "Living among the inhabitants of the island of Nuku Hiva, he gives ethnographic information on cannibalism and tattooing. He also tells the fate of a childhood friend, who after adventures in Peru, ends up on the same island where he will become a great chief" (babelio).
