First edition of this important relation with details on the natural history of the islands northeast of New Guinea. It is lavishly illustrated with 28 black plates and 14 out-of-text maps. The two frontispieces, lithographed by the artists Keulemans and Whymper and enhanced in color, show exotic birds (Pericrocotus Marchesae and Eos Insularis). Some foxing; spines rebacked.
