In-8 (239 x 154 mm) of 76 pp, 1 f.n.ch., 13 plates in black including the frontispiece. Blue boards, smooth spine, illustration of a boat mounted on the upper cover (publisher's binding). First edition, published as volume 3 of the Marine Research Society Salem, Massachusetts. Account of Seaman Endicott (1809-1881) who traveled aboard the Glide, compiled by the vice director of the Peabody Museum in Salem. A long chapter is devoted to a cannibalism party. The ship was wrecked on March 21, 1831 and the crew ended up on Vanua Levu Island. The plates show boats, portraits, utensils and works of art. Binding slightly worn, corners dulled, spine consolidated with black card.
