Viaggio intorno al globo principalemente alla California ed alle isoleSandwich negli anni 1826, 1827, 1828, e 1829. Traduzione dal francesca nell'italiano di Carlo Botta. Turin, Fontana, 1841. 2 volumes in 1 in-8 (205 x 132 mm) of XVI, 296 pp. 1 woodcut plate (frontispiece) for volume I; 392 pp. 3 woodcut plates for volume II. Rooted half basane, smooth spine (period binding). Hill, 500; Forbes, 1260. Very rare first edition of the Italian translation by Paolo Emilio Botta. This very important edition contains for the first time important observations as well as an Italian-Hawaiian vocabulary (pp. 360-365). Duhaut-Cilly was a French merchant who reached Yerba Buena in 1827 and over the next two years visited most of the missions, presidios and pueblos of Alta California. No other traveler had visited so many California settlements, and his account is the best contemporary account of the region. A modest copy of this very important work for the history of California and Hawaii, complete with the required 4 plates with views of Anaroura, Monterey, San Louis-Rey, and Ross.
