First edition of the first French edition of Captain Cook's second voyage by J.-B. A Suard. It contains very important accounts of the discoveries made in Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti. Volume 5 bears this slightly different title announcing details on natural history translated after Forster: "...on geography, natural history, and moral philosophy, and in particular on the earth & its strata; water & the ocean; the atmosphere; the revolutions of the globe; the organized bodies; and the human species. By M. Forster". A very good copy, complete with its 67 engravings (maps, plans, portraits, flora, and fauna, numbered 1-65, 10bis, and the map in volume V) as well as the 2 folding tables.
