First edition, published posthumously under the direction of his father. Louis de Carné fils (1842-1870), explorer, was appointed by his uncle, the Governor General of Cochinchina Pierre-Paul de la Grandière, member of the Mekong exploration mission from 1866 to 1868 under the command of Ernest Doudart de Lagrée and accompanied by Francis Garnier (1839-1873). He was in charge of the description of the voyage and the details of the commercial information. Seriously ill on his return, it was his father who took charge of publishing the report of the voyage after the death of his son in 1870. The publication was well received by the public and it was soon translated into English. The plates show views (5) and a ceremony. The map gives details of the route between Saigon and Sou-Tcheou-Fou. Good copy, plates slightly browned. Napoleon's copy from his library in Saint Helena
