José Andia y Varela was the captain of the Jupiter, "which was chartered on behalf of the Spanish government of Peru in order to accompany the Aguila to carry Franciscan missionaries to Tahiti. Varela left Callao on September 20, 1774, and was separated by the storm from the Aguila, which he did not meet again until Tahiti... Varela's journal is our best source of information for the second, most important voyage of the Aguila to Tahiti" (O'Reilly). Very rare. Some foxing, trace of wetness on the right corner.
