Description

An ancient Batéba statuette, the legs spread out with the body forming an inverted Y reminiscent of the sculptures of Dagara ancestors. The arms, brought back in a compact volume, form wings and seem to represent a bird man. This rare Birifor sculpture is similar to Dagara art in the northeast of Lobi country, or in Dagara country itself between the towns of Dissin in Burkina and Lawra in Ghana. One can see on the front of the chest an extremely patinated area as if the object had been used as a scrubber. Lobi or Dagara, Burkina Faso or Ghana H. 42 cm Provenance : Collection Nadine Vinot-Postry, Paris.
