Franz VON STUCK (1863-1928), "The Athlete", circa 1905, bronze sculpture with black patina. Signed on the base "Franz Von Stuck" and foundry stamp "GUSS C. Leyrer München". H. 67 cm Reference: Franz Von Stuck is a leading artist of the German Symbolist school and founding member of the Munich Secession. The athlete is the first and probably the best known sculpture made by the artist. Our bronze is a perfect example of the idealized representation of the athlete's body, dear to the artist. Its presence in several archive photos of the Villa Stuck as well as in the work "Franz and Mary Stuck in the studio" of 1892 attests to the importance of this sculpture in the work of the Master. condition: junction between forearms and biceps visible
