Armand GUILLAUMIN (1841-1927) The Bay of Agay, circa 1910 Oil on canvas, signed lower left. Small restoration. 68 x 59 cm It was at the end of the 19th century that Armand Guillaumin, taking advantage of a more favorable financial situation, devoted himself devoted himself fully to painting. If he stays then in a village of Creuse, he goes nevertheless many times on the French Riviera, in Agay, in the company of with the painter Victor-Ferdinand Bourgeois to paint landscapes to paint landscapes of the seaside. Marked by the the deep blues of the Mediterranean under the lights of the by the brilliant red of the porphyry rocks and the green of the the green of the pines swept by the mistral, Guillaumin draws up several times the landscapes of Agay raising them as one of his one of his favorite subjects. The work will be reproduced in the second volume of the Catalog Raisonné Armand Guillaumin, currently in preparation currently being prepared by the Comité Guillaumin (Stéphanie Chardeau-Botteri, Dominique Fabiani, Jacques de la Béraudière). A certificate of the Guillaumin Committee will be given to the buyer.
