Description

Chest; 16th-17th century. Wood covered with bronze plates and fabric. The fabric and bronze are missing. It has no key or lock. Measurements: 24 x 39 x 20 cm; 24.5 x 39 x 34 cm (open). Wooden chest with a rectangular structure supported by four small legs at the corners. The piece has a lid with a domed finish that breaks with the rigidity of the straight lines of the body. The work stands out for its delicate ornamental work based on bronze plaques arranged on the wooden core, to which is added the presence of red and green fabrics. The bronze plates are arranged on the outer perimeter, creating a recess inside which bronze ornamentation is also arranged in the form of a rhomboidal fretwork, the inside of which is left open to leave the red cloth visible, while the outer perimeter areas are decorated with green fabric, which is not preserved in some of the spaces. This same ornamental pattern is repeated on the upper part of the lid, where the handle in the centre stands out, allowing the piece to be carried easily. It is worth mentioning the decoration of the bronze, which is finished with different geometric and vegetal motifs of Renaissance aesthetics.
