Average size of prints: 8 x 5.5 cm The handwritten note at the beginning of the volume, and the large number of insurgent women represented, reveal the album owner's interest in the role of women in the Paris Commune: "Les femmes de la Commune. We know that after the Commune, eight women were sentenced to death by the Conseil de Guerre. Their sentences were commuted and they were sent to Cayenne or New Caledonia. Of these eight women, two, Suétens and Rétif, died in Cayenne; Eugènie Papavoine and the Marchais woman died in prison; and Mme Leroy, who had loved and denounced Urbain, a member of the Commune, married a Dutchman, Mr Merr, who has since died. As for the other three women, one, Mme Lemelle, is employed at l'Intransigeant, while the other two have disappeared without a trace.
