GERMAINE KRULL (1897-1985) Dancer Earl 'Shakehips' Tucker at the Moulin Rouge, Paris 1929 Image Size: 22,8 x 17 cm Vintage silver print on single-weight semi-glossy paper, in very good condition. Photographer's stamp, "Mention obligatoirs" stamp and "Abdruck nur unter Angabe ... (Mauritius) gestattet" stamp with the photographer's handwritten name in ink, also annotated "Bl.Birds" and "Doublette" in pencil on the reverse. LITERATURE Michel Frizot, Germaine Krull, cat. Jeu de Paume / Berliner Festspiele, Ostfildern 2015, p. 102 (same sitting). Earl Tucker (1906-1937) was a name attraction in Harlem nightclubs in the 1920s, and his moves were later echoed by Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. In the season of 1928/29 Tucker appeared on Broadway in the all-black revue "Blackbirds" where he performed the low down dance.
