The city view shows the old Oberkassel Bridge, destroyed in 1945, and probably dates from the 1920s or early 1930s, at which time the artist worked in Düsseldorf and since 1922 was a member of the artists' group 'Das Junge Rheinland', participated in exhibitions at Mother Ey and the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and after the dissolution of the group in 1928 became a member of the 'Rheinische Sezession'.
