TIBET FIN DU XIVe - DÉBUT DU XVe SIÈCLE

= Important four-armed bodhisattva bust in gilt bronze and hard stone inlays, the slim waist flaring into a broad-shouldered bust, the main arms in anjali mudra, the left arm doing the mudra of argumentation and the right arm missing. The body adorned with numerous jewels with hard stone inlays. The face with marked eyebrows surmounting the eyes finely enhanced with polychromy, the aquiline nose, the small mouth. The whole framed by two heavy earrings, floating ribbons and two locks falling on the shoulders, the forehead is crowned with five high finials. With a black lacquered metal base. NOTE This type of representation is characteristic of the productions of the 12th to 14th centuries in the central regions of Tibet where the main stylistic influence is that of the art of eastern India of the Pala period (8th to 12th centuries). Thus, we find the elaborate crowns with high fleurons, the necklaces with pendants adorned with hard stones, the bracelets decorated with palmettes, the ribbons ending in "fishtail" but also this very characteristic cannon with a thin waist underlined by broad shoulders. In the present representation, the influence of the Nepalese pieces is also felt through the gilding work which characterizes the style of the Khatmandu valley and which will flourish in the following centuries.
