[Manuscript] DAUDET (Léon): Conte de Noël - the Three Nights of Destiny. One volume. 21.5 by 33.5 cm. Vintage blue half-percaline with corners, brown title page. Manuscript of 27 leaves written on one side. The leaves are numbered, but were made from 43 smaller leaves, numbered in the margins from 1 N to 43 N. This manuscript seems to have been made by cutting a first version to assemble the preserved parts, then annotated, with erasures, in blue, indications in red, includes additions, etc. It is signed Léon DAUDET, but bears no date. The last sentence is: C'est ainsi que la même nuit de noël réunie un père à ses deux enfants. This may be a clue to the date of the tale, and would postdate the suicide of his son Philippe in 1923, a suicide that obsessed Léon DAUDET until his death in 1942.
