POIRET (Paul)

Deauville. Paris, Éditions M.-P. Trémois, 1931. In-folio, in sheets, illustrated cover, white half cloth folder with laces (Binding of the publisher). First edition, illustrated with 11 watercolors by Kees Van Dongen engraved on copper by Macard. Deauville fits me like a glove, I find my clientele there and it looks like Holland, because of the gray light and the rain on the sea, said Van Dongen who had discovered the resort in 1913. He found his favorite subjects there: beach scenes, sea bathing, elegant women, and horse races. He remained under the spell of the resort all his life and stayed at the Normandy every summer until 1963. It was in 1920 that he created this album which he enriched with a second suite of watercolors in 1929. Edition at 297 copies, this one on Arches vellum. Small wear to the folder whose lace is worn, insolation on the plates.
