MONLUC (Adrian de).

La Maigre. Paris, Le Degré Quarante et un, Iliazd, 1952. In-folio, mastic box, boards surrounded by a narrow frame and comprising two vertical boxes of unequal dimensions separated by a band, which are decorated with straight and curved lines drawn by narrow rounded rods sheathed in the same box, smooth spine bearing vertically the name of the author, the title and the name of the illustrator, lining and endpapers of mastic suede, parchment cover, half-calf folder with band, case (P.-L. Martin 1976) Cramer, n°63. 10 original drypoints by Pablo Picasso, including 9 double-page in the text (4 large and 5 small) and one on the cover. Edition at 74 copies, of which 22 are off the market : 60 on old China paper and 14 on japon. Copy on china paper, enriched with one of the 3 proof suites before steeling. The suite is printed on Marais wove paper; it includes a proof of the cover illustrated with the arms of Adrian de Monluc, and a proof of each of the 9 engravings in the text, signed in pencil Frélaut. Jacques Frélaut was one of the engravers working with Iliazd, in 1957 he took over the workshop of Roger Lacourière founded in 1929 and in which he had already worked since 1938. The justification mentions an edition of only 3 suites before steeling. Perfect binding by Pierre-Lucien Martin, decorated with thin baguettes on a recessed background. It was shown at the first personal exhibition of the bookbinder, organized in February-March 1978 by Claude Guérin (cat. n°69).
