The Kasbahs of the Atlas. Drawings and paintings enhanced with metals. Paris, Jules Meynial, 1930. Large in-4, a bound text booklet and 30 plates, all in a green parchment slipcase, silver edges (Binding of the publisher). Luxurious album including 30 superb plates by Jacques Majorelle, all printed separately and mounted on cardboard, of which 21 engraved in four colors and enhanced with gold and silver. The text booklet is bound in a Moorish decorated cloth called Flammannam, with map of Morocco and itinerary of the artist reproduced on the endpapers of metallic paper. There is a reproduction of a photograph of Jacques Majorelle taken in southern Morocco. Edition at 520 numbered copies. It was at the suggestion of Marshal Lyautey that Jacques Majorelle was sent to Morocco by his father, the cabinetmaker and decorator Louis Majorelle. Established in Morocco from 1917, he developed the immense work that we know, in which the thirty paintings reproduced in this portfolio are probably among the most beautiful (see Félix Marcilhac, La Vie et l'œuvre de Jacques Majorelle 1995). From the Jacques André library (bookplate). Freckles on the verso of the last plate. Minor rubbing to the slipcase, missing the laces.
