Beautifully decorated binding, the mosaic geometric compositions on the boards inspired by the costume of the priestess of Tanit, "her great cloak of dark purple, cut in an unknown fabric", translated in the palette of Schmied. Born in 1968, Luigi Castiglioni, a bookbinder and gilder based near Rimini, is one of the most important representatives of contemporary Italian bookbinding. Relying on a strong traditional technique, he revisits the mosaic compositions of Creuzevault and other modern masters as well as the Art Deco style bindings. He had a solo exhibition in 2005, at the gallery-bookstore Fata Libelli, which highlighted his work and ensured him an international reputation today. He also exhibited at the bookstore Éric Busser in 2017 and 2018 (see "Luigi Castiglioni, la renaissance de la reliure italienne" in Art et Métiers du Livre, n°285, 2011; Luigi Castiglioni, Più da vicino. La reliure à mains nues, text by Marina Mongin, 2014). Four of his creations are presented in this catalog (lots n° 66, 70, 71 and 80).
