Compendium of the statutes of the master cartwrights of the City and suburbs of Paris. - The following Sentences, Decisions & Regulations were researched in the year 1756 & printed at the time, by the care & diligence of Sieurs Étienne-Paul Gerin, Noël Petit, Bernard Camel & Martin Girard, Jurés en charge de la Communauté. Paris, De l'Imprimerie de Gissey, 1760. 2 works in one volume in-12, red morocco, gilt lace, smooth spine decorated, fawn title page, lining and endpapers of gilt dominoté paper, gilt edges on marbling (Binding of the time). Blanc, Bibliographie des corporations ouvrières avant 1789, n°635 and 724. Beautiful volume in contemporary morocco, bringing together two rare works concerning the master cartwrights of the city of Paris. The Statutes do not seem to be listed in the BnF. The community of wheelwrights was established by Louis XII and the first statutes date from 1498. A specialist in wood and metal, the wheelwright designed, manufactured, maintained and repaired carriages, coaches, carts, litters, stretchers, horse-drawn carriages and other paraphernalia related to the transport of people and goods.
