First edition of the first French translation, in prose, of the verse novel inspired by the Ethiopics of Heliodorus, by Theodore Prodomus, a 12th century Byzantine writer.
Godard de Beauchamps (1689-1761), playwright and great historian of the theater, was the secretary of the marshal of Villeroy. His theatrical library was bought by Louis XV for the Marquise de Pompadour, who became a royal mistress.
Charming binding in lemon morocco with lace. One will notice, repeated in the lace, a double scroll on which two birds are posed.
