Imitation of the Greek novel by Theodore Prodromus. S.l. [Paris], s.n., 1746. In-8, lemon morocco, gilt lace on the covers, smooth spine decorated, red title page, thin inner border, gilt edges on marble (period binding). First edition of the first French translation, in prose, of the verse novel inspired by the Ethiopics of Heliodorus, by Theodore Prodomus, a 12th century Byzantine writer. Godard de Beauchamps (1689-1761), playwright and great historian of the theater, was the secretary of the marshal of Villeroy. His theatrical library was bought by Louis XV for the Marquise de Pompadour, who became a royal mistress. Charming binding in lemon morocco with lace. One will notice, repeated in the lace, a double scroll on which two birds are posed. Small wetness in the margin of p. 83.
