Sundial or gun of Midi with autonomous release. In marble and bronze on a circular base decorated with a miniature gun and a magnifying glass, the terrace signed "Brandin fant in Paris". Small chips and missing parts. Louis XVI style. Invented in the 18th century, this ingenious system allowed the firing of the gunpowder placed on the barrel at the passage of the sun at the meridian on sunny days from May to October at noon sharp, which allowed to set the watches.
