Description

PRINCE IMPERIAL Napoléon Eugène Louis BONAPARTE (1856-1879).

L.A.S. "Louis-Napoleon" to his dear Monsieur Lambert. Camden Place, Chislehurst, November 26, 1870. 1 p. ½ in-8. Beautiful letter from the Prince Imperial, at the beginning of his exile after the defeat and at the time of the siege of Paris; the Prince addresses himself to Baron Lambert, former chief of the imperial venry, father of his close friend Tristan. He apologizes for not having been able to answer him earlier "[...] I hope that you will excuse me by thinking that our life at Chislehurst is very busy although very sad. We think of you often and the news that my good friend Tristan gave me was a great pleasure [...]. He sends him a letter for Tristan whom he congratulates for the military medal he received on the battlefield [...]". An intimate of the Prince, Tristan Lambert (1846-1929) had joined the army when the war of 1870 was declared; he took part in the battles fought under Metz before sharing the Emperor's captivity at the castle of Wilhelmshohe. Letter published in the correspondence of the Prince Imperial in Eric Pradelles, Le Prince Impérial, Napoléon IV, Correspondance inédite (...) édition Mémoires et Documents, 2013-2015.
