L.S. Munich, March 22, 1875. 1 p. in-folio. Heading "LUDWIG". Legal document written in German. This eccentric king had a passion for Wagner and his work. Ludwig II acceded to the throne at the age of 18 on March 10, 1864. He brought Wagner to Munich, settled his considerable debts and arranged for his new opera to be performed. He financed the Bayreuth Festival Hall in his honor. The king had to break off this relationship, as Wagner had fallen out of favor with the king's court. He was declared insane in June 1886 and interned in Berg Castle, where he died three days later. Document with a CBC
