SEVRES Two plates in hard porcelain from the entry service pale blue background swan in gold of Pâuline Borghèse, decorated in gold in the center of a rosette surrounded by six palmettes and on the wing in gold enhanced with brown swans around a fountain in three rectangular reserves with green background and framed by gold palmettes on a pale blue background decorated with gold mask in green background diamonds flanked by two flowering stems, the edge highlighted with two rows of pearls in purple and gold nets. One marked : " M. Imple de Sevres ^ " in red, the other with the mark erased. Empire period, year XIII, 1804-1804. D. 23,5 cm. One with a restored chip and some restored gold wear, the other in good condition. Provenance : Delivered on 15 brumaire year XIV (6 november 1805) by order of the Empress Josephine to her Imperial Highness the Princess Borghese, Pauline Bonaparte, sister of Napoleon. The service whose decoration is described bottom pale blue swans and heads in gold heightened in brown on bottom bronze enters the store of sale of the manufacture of Sevres the 1st vendemiaire year XIV (September 23, 1805). It was delivered on 15 brumaire year XIV (November 6, 1805) by order of the Empress Josephine to her Imperial Highness the Borghese princess, Pauline Bonaparte, Napoleon's sister. It was divided into a starter service of 132 pieces including 72 dinner plates at 55 francs each and a dessert service of 108 pieces also composed of 72 dinner plates at 70 francs each, difference justified by the presence of a cameo portrait in the center of the latter. A supplement of 76 pieces was delivered on September 29, 1806, including 48 dinner plates to complete the entrée service (Archives, Cité de la céramique, Sèvres et Limoges, Vbb2, f° 15 and 59). Two plates and a cup from the service of Princess Pauline Borghese are illustrated in Napoleon I and Sèvres, L'art de la porcelaine au service de l'Empire, collective work edited by Camille Le Prince, Paris, 2016, p. 260.
