JEAN JACQUES SCHERRER (1855-1916) "Marshal taking notes next to Napoleon I reading a map". Oil on canvas. 59 x 34 cm. Gilt frame. A.B.E. (Restorations) Related work: The final composition can be found on old postcards (mostly Russian) under the title "Napoleon before the battle" (it could be the painting "Napoleon at Brünn" from the 1907 exhibition) Biography : Jean Jaques SCHERRER (1855-1916) is a French painter of Alsatian origin trained at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. Mainly active during the modern period, he distinguished himself at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889 by receiving the bronze medal. He is renowned for his historical works such as the Entry of Joan of Arc in Orleans (1887).
