JEAN-URBAIN GUERIN (1761-1836) "Pierre Marie Barthélemy, Ferino (Craveggia, Italy, 1747 - Paris 1816) Drawing with black pencil and blurred heightened with white. Oval view : H. 20 x 17 cm Passe partout : H. 35,5 x 28 cm General of brigade in 1793. Senator in 1805. Count of the Empire in 1808. His name is engraved on the triumphal arch of the Étoile, east side. The print made from this drawing, by Fiesinger and his pupil Elisabeth Herhan, was deposited at the Bibliothèque Nationale on the 1st thermidor, An IX (July 20, 1801), and is part of the series : "Collection des portraits des généraux qui se sont le plus distingués dans les guerres de la république française". Quoted in: "Catalogue Des Livres... Qui Composent Le Dépôt De La Librairie De Joseph Vincent Degen", Suppl. 2, Joseph Vinzenz Degen Selbstverlag, 1802, p. 322: "Portrait du Général Ferino, dessiné par Guerin et gravé par Fiesinger, Fol. Paris 4 fl. 30 kr." A print from this "Collection des portraits des généraux qui se sont le plus distingués dans les guerres de la république française" is in the British Museum (inv. 1925,1214.127).
