[Bibliothèque de la Malmaison]. LA TREMOILLE (Henri-Charles de). Mémoires de Henri-Charles de La Trémoïlle, prince de Tarente. À Liege, chez Bassompierre, 1767.

[Library of Malmaison]. LA TREMOILLE (Henri-Charles de). Memoirs of Henri-Charles de La Trémoïlle, prince of Taranto. In Liege, at Bassompierre, 1767. In-12, LXXII-380 p., [1] f., bound in full contemporary marbled tan calf, smooth spine, garnet-red basane title-piece, monogrammed patch "PB" at the tail of the spine, red edges (spine rubbed, title-piece incomplete, head-cap uncovered, corners worn, upper bit split). First edition of the memoirs of this officer converted to Protestantism, who fought in Holland and declared himself openly favorable to the Fronde. A precious copy from the library of the Château de la Malmaison, with the stamp on the title page. This stamp was affixed during the sales of the library which took place from May to July 1829. The monogram on the back is of an Empire style, consisting of the letters "PB", or "Pagerie-Bonaparte", and designates the books of the library of Joséphine de Beauharnais. When the bindings were made on books that had just been published, the monogram was stamped directly on the spine; here, the original binding has been preserved, and a leather medallion bearing the monogram was simply added to the spine at the time.
