[JOUBERT DE LA RUE (Jean). Letters of a disoriented savage to his correspondent in America... In Amsterdam, with J. F. Jolly, 1746. In-12, [1] f. (title), 240 p., contemporary speckled tan calf, 5-ribbed spine, garnet morocco title-piece, ornamented boards, gilt roulette on the edges, marbled edges (jaws partly split, corners dull, very slight russeting). First edition in collection of these letters which appeared in issue from 1738. Virulent criticism of both religion and the politics of the French king, the work was placed on the Index. (INED 2375). Provenance: Girald (20th century woodcut bookplate).
