[Costume]. [HÉLYOT (Hippolyte); BULLOT (M.). History of the monastic, religious and military orders, and of the secular congregations of both sexes that have been established up to now... With figures representing all the different dresses... A Paris, chez J.-B. Coignard, 1721. 8 volumes in-4, contemporary speckled tan calf, spine with 5 nerves, title and greeks in tan calf, decorated caissons, red edges (wear and tear to the bindings, russeting and some soiling without gravity, sustained browning in t.5, 3 plates missing in photocopies). Expanded second edition of this important treatise which offers an incomparable panorama of religious and military orders, both from France and other parts of Christendom, with their costumes at various times, and in particular at the beginning of the 18th century. The work is illustrated with 811 copperplate engravings (here pl. 16 and 100 of vol. 3 and pl. 71 of vol. 4 are reproductions), each showing a full-length figure wearing the costume of his order.
