In Dijon, from the Impr. of Cl. Guyot, 1621. small in-4, [8] f., 176 p., [8] f. (table, errata), old basane style red morocco binding, spine with 5 nerves, ornamented boards, triple gilt fillet on covers, gilt roulette on endpapers, gilt edges (spine rubbed, faded and de-gilt, uncovered headpieces, title-piece missing, corners rubbed; stain on title and introductory ff., paper browned). First edition of this work dealing with druidism and funeral ceremonies, "curious and sought after" (Caillet 4819); Brunet (IV, 1257) only values copies including the plate present here. The illustration consists of the arms of the dedicatee, Roger de Bellegarde (1562 or 63 - 1646), peer of France, governor of Burgundy and Bresse, engraved on copperplate on the full page; a folding plate engraved on copperplate showing the tomb of the druid Chyndonax, and the urn it contains, objects discovered near Dijon and which gave the pretext for this study; finally, seven woodcut figures in the text, including an amphora and a statuette.
