[Manuscript]. [Gnomonic]. [Elements of calculation and composition of sundials]. Done in Bourges on the 15th ventose of the year seven of the Republic [March 5, 1799]. In-12, [30] f., followed by blank leaves, 1 double plate, 1 figure, period brown granite calf, smooth spine, cream title-piece, gilt fillets and fleurons (worm's tract at head of upper spine, one guard cut out). Neat manuscript, in black ink, each page framed with an azure fillet; one part has tables written in red and black in an azure frame. The illustration consists of two figures, one double-page off-text showing a sundial, the other mid-page. A first part offers general considerations on the modes of calculation (16 pages). This is followed by 12 pages of tables concerning the "Bourges horizontal sundial", then 16 pages dealing with calculation and construction; finally 2 pages of text and 10 pages of tables concerning the "Republic horizontal sundial". There is no title page; the title piece on the back reads: " Cadr[an] de Bourg[es]. Provenance : Charles Joubert, in Boursas, commune of Alligny, July 1840 (handwritten mention). Attached : OZANAM.
