CARTIER TANK CINTRÉE Bracelet watch in 18K gold (750 thousandths), white lacquered dial signed Cartier Paris, black minute track, painted Roman numerals, blued sword hands. Octagonal crown in gold 18K (750 thousandths) heightened by a sapphire cabochon. Back in 18K (750 thousandths) gold signed Cartier, numbered 031163 on the outside, 60868 on the inside. Mechanical hand-wound movement signed Cartier reference 78-1 on an ETA base. Black leather strap, 18K (750 thousandths) gold folding clasp signed Cartier. Watch functional at the time of the expertise, without guarantee of future operation and condition of parts. Accompanied by its service papers at Cartier Paris dated May 2019, complete restoration of the dial and hands performed by Cartier, replacement of the crown and full service, intervention on the clasp and case as well as a polish. Also intervention papers in 2011. Circa 1970 Dimensions 23 x 45 mm (measurements horn to horn) Gross weight 39,3 g The Cartier Tank Cintrée made its appearance in the early 1920s, and it made a resounding appearance when we discovered this handsome elongated watch with its case, dial and crystal curved to follow the curve of the wrist, a decidedly modern design orchestrated by Louis Cartier. At the time, wearing wristwatches was a rare occurrence, popularized by military use. However, this Tank Cintrée was quickly adopted by the world's greats, actors and other male figures, until later appearing on the wrist of Steve McQueen during the filming of Thomas Crown Affair. The magnificent watch we are offering for sale dates from the 1970s and has been professionally restored by Cartier over a period of 9 months with an exceptional restoration of the dial, a complete service of the movement, a check and adjustment of the bracelet and clasp, a polishing and flame bluing of the hands and other small interventions. A fantastic piece that takes us back to the rich and mysterious history of Cartier watches.
