The Boston Modern Quilt Guild, founded in 2010, is a group of quilters hailing mostly from the Boston metropolitan area. We lean toward the modern in quilts, but love them all! Anyone with an interest in modern quilting is welcome.
When we received an email from the Boston/Strasbourg Sister City Association (BSSCA) we were intrigued. Collaborating on a quilt with the Patchers of Eckbolsheim in Strasbourg sounded like a wonderful way to celebrate our shared passion for working with fabric.
Each participant in this endeavor was asked to prepare 2 identical quilt blocks. One of each of their blocks was sent to the sister city and one stayed home. The Boston Quilters sent 25 star blocks to Strasbourg and they sent us 25 flower blocks. Thus, each group started with the same set of 50 blocks. The Boston Modern Quilt Guild worked together to create a quilt using machine piecing and machine quilting techniques. The Patchers of Eckbolsheim have used traditional hand piecing techniques for their creation.
We hope you will appreciate our creation. A starry night with a crescent moon illuminating a beautiful field of flowers. This collaboration of blocks was machine pieced by Susan McKinney and Lauren Gutierrez. Leneigh White pieced the back of the quilt with the remaining star blocks. The quilting was also a collaboration. The stars were machine quilted by Amy Kidd and the flowers were machine quilted by Rebecca Loren.
